First set of stamps with sign "Republic of
Srpska" was issued on 26.10.1992. Before this posts of Republic of
Srpska used valid stamps of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
First set of stamps with sign "Republic of Srpska":
- auxiliary issue containing 11 stamps, latter named “Banjaluka
Provisorium”, consisting of definitive stamps of FRY with overprint.
- this issue was used for payment of postal services in western part
of Srpska, while in other parts stamps of FRY were used until the
beginning of 1993.
January 11, 1993
- First authentic issue of RS postal stamps (among philatelists known
as "First Gusle")
June, 1993
- "Referendum" first (conditionally stated), commemorative issue
dedicated to the referendum of Serbian people in RS on Vance-Owen
Peace Plan.
- This issue consisted of three definitive stamps from the issue
"First Gusle", on which new nominal values and titles "Referendum" and
15-16.05.'93 were imprinted.
- It is important to stress that the value of these stamps was
devaluated by inflation, and they were used only for 90 days.
Today, original letters with stamps "Referendum" are rare, and they
represent real treasure of Philatelic collection of RS.
January 9, 1994
- First true commemorative issue of postal stamps of Srpska. Stamp
dedicated to the Statehood Day of RS, with fresco of Saint Stefan.
- After these sets, commemorative stamps started to dominate in
publishing program of RS. Between 6 and 14 commemorative issues and
two definitive issues were published per year.
